Belated Birthday Post

So far so Summer

Here are a few pics of GMC in action. Apparently he has a favorite hat and t-shirt. I'm a bit shocked that I haven't been blogging about my awesome son, I suppose I'm distracted by his awesomeness. Pictured above is him golfing, his long summer curls, shopping for shoes (2 shoe sizes in 4 months) and at the airshow in Heber.

Imagination

Grant loves playing pretend and dress up. He is quite articulate and can describe or act out what he imagines. When he wears his cowboy hat he walks around saying, "Hi ya'll" and "Howdy Partner". And he loves to wear his Batman cape while doing Karate. A few days ago he was pushing his dump truck around the house saying, "more dirt...more concrete...castle." I asked, "Who are you building a castle for?" He answered, "The princess."

Early Summer

Hipster Grant

Hipster Grant loves playing on his Iphone. He drinks out of a vintage Santa mug all year round and loves Americana bluegrass...Only kidding. But he does get a kick out of wearing Mom's glasses.

Music

Grant, as of the past week or so (22 Mo. today), has been speaking of how much he loves music. Montgomery Cowart "Love(s) Music..." And he does... he hears the bass, and the drums, and the horns, loves to mimic the guitar. I'm thinking maybe it's the standup bass that's a fit for him. He is a talented musician who loves to listen to new tunes. . .

Golf-It

Today our family went to Golf-in-the-Round for a little early spring golfing. It was a beautiful day in Salt Lake City and Grant was enjoying the sunshine. It's a neat place, Golf-in-the-Round, that sits just west of a train track and city dump. Not too glamourous but to my boy it was a place of industrial noise and big trucks.
This was not the highlight however because little Grant was such a focused golfer. He practices T-ing up golf balls at home and his confidence beamed through as he skillfully balanced the golfball on the T and would swing his golf club "all by himself". He still is working on holding the club square and facing the right direction, but today was the first day he focused on the forward action of his swing. (Most of his early golf swings sent the ball flying behind him.) Of course, he showed of his talents to all of the on-lookers.
I'm so proud of my family and love my doing things my boys love to do.

So far so February

February has been a busy month after a frozen pipe fiasco and a few bouts of flu and cold, Chateau Cowart is getting back on track. We'll be getting new wood floors in a few weeks which should keep things disorganized and hectic, but it will be so nice when it's done!

You'd think Grant hasn't even notice all the goings on since he is constantly enthralled in sports. Above is a picture of him playing, the two of us at a Utah game and also one of him playing Wii. He can hit homeruns on Wii sports! It's a joy to listen to him wake up from a nap as he says, "dribble" "shoot" "miss" and "rebound". He can also tell you all about baseball. I'm super proud of him and I know for a fact his daddy is. We can't wait for spring so we can take him outside to practice all his new skills.

Grant is quickly becoming a master of the English language. Constantly I'm stopped by strangers asking his age and commenting on his vocabulary. He loves to show of by saying "lamborghini". He's even started using modifiers saying, "Hold the wizard" "Open the door". I love to quiz him on the names of his favorite friends, family members, and TV characters.

Goodnight Show le Cowart

This is a pic from IPhoto when GMC was 8 mos. This story takes place at 18 mos.

Tonight after bath time I sat Grant down in his crib with the book "Words". I came downstairs to make a bottle of milk and spoke briefly on the telephone with my sister. When I went upstair I found Grant sitting in the corner of his crib with the back of the book pressed up against his face. Leaning against the door I asked him if he was enjoying his book. He smiled, set the book on his lap and opened it quickly. "Kitty!"he said joyfully as he pointed to the image of a "cat" being the word.
He drank his bottle quickly. He is so tall, the baby who once fit sweetly inside of my cradled arms now drapes off the end of the rocking chair. I snuggled him against my chest for a moment, kissed him good night and laid him in bed. "Goodnight" I said as I quickly shut the door behind me.
"Mom..." "Mommy..." I sat on the couch and browsed my Twitter feed through batches of silence and quiet coos. "Mom" "Mom" and a bit of whining. Guess I better go up. Making my way up the stairs I noticed the cries quickly quieted.
Turning on his light at the dimmest level I found him feet up against the crib equally on two slats. He squinted his eyes and rolled on his tummy. "Grant baby, it's sleepy time." I picked him up and snuggled him against my chest.
"Sit down" he says to me as I rock from side to side. I obliged and held him tight rocking in the rocking chair. "La La La La..."
"Sure thing buddy." Hmmm he's never asked me to sing a lullaby...I'll bring out the big guns. "Sleep...Sleep tonight/And may your dreams/be realized...." His breathing slowed but his grip around my fingers tightened. He smells like coconuts and baby boy. Soon he is snoring and my singing has mellowed to a hum.
"Lay down", he says. I lifted up him up, lay him down and pulled the blanket up to his chin as he snores and rolled over to his tummy.
"Goodnight Grant."

Happy Holidays

So the pictures uploaded backward but that's fine since it's already 2011 and I'm just now posting on the holidays. We had a great time here at Chateau Cowart. Here is Grant wearing a "2011" crown I made for him on NYE. He did not like wearing it and I had to bribe him with a roll-up to get this one pic. Next, is the two of us showing our eyes hanging on Christmas Day. Santa brought him a desk and he seems to enjoy his space coloring and pretending to cook. A few weeks before Christmas we went to meet Santa at Alpine Country Club. Grant loved eating the buffet food and Santa was cool too. Josh made a safari snowman for our back yard. It's been a fun start to the winter season.
